EDB Recovery Tool

Isinteg Exchange 2007 is a command-line utility, which comes as a built-in tool with Exchange Server 2007. When you install Exchange Server it gets automatically installed at the location where Exchange Server is installed. Default location for isinteg Exchange 2007 is :

<Drive>:\program files\exchsrvr\bin

In aforementioned location, <Drive> represents the hard drive letter where Exchange Server is installed. This utility enables the system administrator and help desk personnel having administrative privileges to run an integrity check on Exchange database Information Store, finding errors, and resolving the errors it finds during the integrity check.

Isinteg Exchange 2007 checks the database at application level for finding database integrity related issues. If any kind of mismatch is found, isinteg Exchange 2007 repairs the database, and reset the database integrity. When you are going to execute isinteg Exchange 2007 for integrity check in database Information store then make sure that Information Store service is running and database is not mounted otherwise you will get the following error message on running isinteg:

"Error: unable to get databases status from server. The reason could be either wrong server name or networking problems. Isinteg quits now."

You should also make sure that if Information Store is running but database is in mounted state then isinteg Exchange 2007 will be stopped automatically and following error message will appear at command prompt:

  • "Databases for server <ServerName>
  • Only databases marked as Offline can be checked
  • Index Status Database-Name
  • Storage Group Name: First Storage Group
  • Online Mailbox Database
  • Storage Group Name: Second Storage Group
  • 2 Online Public Folder Database
  • Enter a number to select a database or press Return to exit."

Let us see the syntax of isinteg that will help you executing this utility for resolving database integrity related issues:

isinteg -s ServerName [-fix] [-verbose] [-l logfilename] -test testname[[, testname]...]

In the preceding syntax
  • -s is the option, which accepts server name; therefore, replace the term ServerName with the name of Exchange Server.
  • -fix is the option, which fixes the errors found during integrity check.
  • -verbose is the option, which displays detailed information during the process.
  • -l logfilename is the option, which accepts the name of the log file. Default path for log file of priv.edb is .\isinteg.pri and for pub.edb is .\isinteg.pub
  • -test is the option, which accepts function name and execute it. Depending on the function, you specify with it, isinteg will resolve the related error. You can specify multiple functions with this option. If you specify multiple options then separate them with comma. And if you are not sure about, which function should be used and which should not then type alltests with -test. Alltests is a function used with -test option to execute all predefined functions for repairing database integrity related errors.

Isinteg Exchange 2007 when used with -fix option generates log file in the folder where Information Store is available. That log file carries detailed information about the errors found and resolved. If in any case, isinteg.exe cannot resolve database integrity related errors then use Exchange Recovery tool, which is specifically designed for repairing corrupt Exchange database files - priv.edb and pub.edb. The software can be installed on any version of Windows operating system to resolve Exchange database related issues.
